Therapy and Counseling Approach

With creativity and humor, I provide tools, direction and fresh insights for the courageous people with whom I work. You can expect our time together to be an engaging and, at times, unconventional collaboration towards meaningful change.

I specialize in couples therapy, focusing on a range of relationship issues including communication issues, repairing after affairs, sexual issues, increasing intimacy, addressing loneliness and grief, and nurturing friendship towards deeper understanding of yourselves and one another. Additional specializations include lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender couples and individuals, multicultural issues, overcoming the effects of abuse and trauama, and domestic violence.

My therapy approach combines a strength-based, solution-focused perspective with research-based techniques and interventions. I use techniques from Gottman Method Therapy as well as Emotionally Focused Therapy and experiential therapy.

My formal training is in family systems, an approach based in the assumption our lives happen in relationships with others, our communities and the world around us. When we create seemingly small changes we make a difference not only in our own lives, but in the lives of others.

When we are having problems, especially in relationships, the solution will not be found by placing blame on one person, but rather by shifting relationship dynamics, strengthening friendship and creating new solutions.
